Speaking of Catholics, the widespread panic over this video has been fascinating to watch. It has the potential to become the Great Disappointment version 2.0!
This is old but still relevant, and seems like something you might enjoy. Big fan!!
Scumbag conservative Adventist homeschooling mom thinks respecting parental consent is only important when its her kids being indoctrinated.
Over on AdVindicate there’s a debate raging over a Christian film based on Ellen White’s The Great Controversy, called The Record Keeper. Fundies are up in arms partially because the filmmakers are taking the basic themes of the book and placing it in a fantasy steampunk world (that’s bad), and partially because the General Conference is putting money into something they don’t personally like (also bad).
As you may have guessed, the comment section has produced some utter hilarity:
I happen to recall the Bible saying Jesus got in trouble with the Pharisees for thinking he was justified in breaking the Sabbath to heal the sick, but let’s not worry about arguing with facts here.
On that note, if I had to steal from someone who wouldn’t miss it to feed a dying child, you better believe I would. Dick.
Wait, I thought that Adventists wanted everyone to join their church and God wants everyone to be saved. But apparently if you have TOO much success evangelizing, Satan must be behind it all?
You people are like hipsters, but with religion.
You heard it here folks, acting kills!
Well, isn’t that convenient. If the movie fails, God has graciously thwarted Satan’s plans. If it’s successful, God has still graciously thwarted Satan’s plans just in a more roundabout way. If 1844 has taught us anything, its that admitting you were wrong about something is for quitters.
Translation: “If I don’t understand something and it doesn’t directly appeal to or benefit me, then it must be useless!”
"Ugh, I’m so offended! I’m gonna go read something wholesome without any violence or weird, demonic imagery… like the Bible!"
Because personal opinion is automatically wrong, and bias only applies to people who disagree with you.
It’s kind of funny that a woman who built a career on publishing what amounts to Bible fanfic (including expanded dramatizations of Jesus’ life that have zero Biblical basis) had such a stick up her ass about fiction.
Thanks, and hope you’re not surrounded by too many crazies. Keep fighting the power!
Not perfect, but definitely a step in the right direction.
Just a friendly holiday PSA.
On that note, I knew an SDA homeschooling mom (who was homeschooled herself) who thought the “real” solution to violence in schools was supplying teachers with guns. Clearly, her prayerful creationist upbringing taught her the importance of “thou shalt not kill”.
But eh, what do I know? I was corrupted by public education and believe in science, so therefore I have no moral code whatsoever.
The underlying philosophy driving the entire SDA educational system, ladies and gentlemen.
Change con-man to “insanely prudish victorian woman prone to religious delusions brought on by epileptic seizures” and you have Adventist colporteurs in a nutshell.
You’re welcome, and thanks for the friendly message!
I just tried to match up the letters as best I could with a Photoshop hack job, because I have no idea what the font is either. The official website has an identity package, but doesn’t seem to include the font for some reason. You might want to run the logo through a font identifier maybe? When I tried it, I got “Mendoza Roman”.
